“Turn to me and be saved, all the ends of the earth! For I am God, and there is no other.” Isaiah 45:22
Every man is a rebel, a fighter against the name, honor, nature, and laws of God (Romans 3:10-23). Every man has sinned. You have sinned. You have chosen to fulfill your own desires and purposes instead obeying God. Your choice to rebel has enslaved you to this sin and earned you a death sentence in the eyes of a righteous God. There is nothing that you can do in your own power to escape the judgment and condemnation you’ve earned.
However, God is also a gracious God. He is a God who desires to display his goodness and mercy throughout all creation, and He has, from eternity past, chosen for Himself a people to redeem as his own. The word “redeem” refers to the purchasing of someone out of something. It was commonly used to refer to the price required to set a slave free. God the Son, Jesus Christ, paid that price for all who would believe on his name, repent of (or turn away from) their sin, and submit themselves to His holy and perfect lordship.
God is the One to whom your debt is owed. God is the One who has paid that debt for your redemption if you would only believe through the regenerating power of the Holy Spirit.
Dear rebel, would you lay down your arms in your battle against your Creator and God? Would you flee the wrath that you have stored up for yourself? Would you seek the mercy and forgiveness of God made available through Christ’s death on the cross? Would you repent and believe?
